July 1st is the single biggest party day in this vast land called Canada. It is Canada’s birthday, the day when, in 1867, five provinces were joined together in Confederation and a new country was born. Canada Day. Every year since, Canada Day celebrations have become wilder and zanier. Canada Day is the biggest celebration of the year and the best party around.
Today, Canadians bear a real sense of pride and patriotism. Our country has matured, fought through wars, become one of the 8 biggest economic powerhouses in the world, given wonderful inventions to humankind and created a free and functioning society with its own unique culture and sense of purpose. Canada today has grown up, no longer the little sister of America but a tall and proud, independent, successful and beautiful woman with her own life to live.
Canadians have many reasons to celebrate their wonderful nation every July 1st. This technologically advanced, geographically diverse, strong and proud democracy is a bastion of light in the world, and Canadians know this. So to honour the nations history and future, Canadians use July 1st as the perfect pretext to don the most ridiculous red-and-white outfits, place the most garish maple leafs on their heads, and drink themselves stupid (must be 19 or older, 18 in Quebec and Alberta) in the biggest, most exciting and most fun day throughout the year in Canada.
